What's happened in the last two weeks, with our comments:

• Power BI Desktop updates

New features in preview: report theming and new matrix with stepped layout and drilling into hierarchies. These are the first steps to get equivalent PivotTable features, but there is still a long road ahead.

• Power BI Service updates
Look at new Power BI Navigation features, and how to integrate Power BI dashboards in your application and Power BI reports in SharePoint Online.

• Amazon RedShift is now supported in Power BI Service

• SSDT 17.0 RC3 now available
Not many new features, but it is a required update if you test Analysis Services in SQL Server vNext.

• SSDT available for Visual Studio 2017
Not ready for production time, but it will improve integration with Visual Studio.

• Integrate M in Notepad++

• Query designer support for DAX now available in SSDT for Reporting Services

• New pricing tier S0 for Azure Analysis Services

There is still a big gap between the Developer tier and the cheapest production tier. But this is a step in the right direction to fill the gap.
