Power BI Dashboard Design Video Course

Designing dashboards seems like a simple task, thanks to modern BI tools. In reality, designing dashboards that are useful and that people want to use is not so easy. A good dashboard must follow specific rules and design concepts, which this video course aims to teach you.

Here are some of the goals of the Power BI Dashboard Design video course:

  • It aims to teach you how to design beautiful dashboards that people use every day.
  • It is designed specifically for Microsoft Power BI, but you can learn even if you never used Power BI before.
  • It is a reference guide that you can use later. No software updates will change the concepts that you learn here.
  • It is not just theory, but real examples and comparisons between well-designed and difficult-to-use dashboards.
  • It is not a tutorial on how Power BI works, but you will find some useful references for learning it, if needed.
  • It is not just for designers. Every person who creates dashboards can benefit from it. Even if you are a designer, you will learn usability tips that many of your colleagues usually underestimate.

The video course is divided in four parts:

  • The first part explains what a dashboard is. People are usually confused about the exact definition;
  • The second part is a brief introduction to the Power BI features, with some resources to start from scratch;
  • The third part is the most important, and it includes the 15 rules to design a perfect dashboard;
  • The last part is the chart reference, and you can use it to choose the right charts based on the kind of data you have to display.

The course includes several samples and resources, and additional written material to further explain the topics discussed by the teachers.

The content of this training has been realized by Daniele Perilli.

Power BI Visuals Reference

The last section of the course classifies the visuals available in Power BI. This classification is also displayed in a single PDF that you can download for free. You can print or display it to make a guided choice of the right visuals for your dashboards.

Students have access to a private discussion area where they can interact with the instructors asking questions related to the lectures and the exercises.

    Very interesting and brilliant course, full of contents, explanations and examples

  • Vyacheslav Ilnytskyy (Aug 14, 2020)

    Great course. Great balance of fun and ideas. During this course I wrote about 15 new ideas for my project and pretty sure I will have more after going through it again some time later. Just wonder why, even though, it was mentioned in this course the pdf reference will be updated regularly, it does not happen, since the last version is 2 years old.

    • Thanks for the feedback! We are going to update the PDF reference by the end of 2020. We realized it's a huge task to keep it updated regularly, the increase in number of components made it hard to use the same format, and in the next iteration, we have to make a major change.

    Excellent overview, especially for an Excel nerd that thinks the Matrix is the best visual! Good rules to consider. I've printed off the rules and will use it for all dashboards going forward.

  • Igor Poleshchuk (Jul 10, 2020)

    Great course!

  • Ricardo felippe ramos (Jul 9, 2020)

    This course helped me boost my job in a powerful way. Your directions and tips were great..thanks

  • Chang Li (Jun 24, 2020)

    Great Video Courses, very clear about the goal of the great Dashboard and detail explanation of the reason why we should design the dashboard like this.

  • Robin Neven (May 29, 2020)

    Very nice! Although there is not a lot of practical application, but I guess people can do that with their own dashboards/reports.

  • José Javier Santos (May 12, 2020)

    The course was not what I was expecting at all. Course is only concentrated in designing concepts but what I needed is to learn how to create visuals and set them up… chart, tables, cards, conditional formatting, learn other features and so on… Months ago I enrolled the Power Pivot and DAX course and it was amazing!!!

  • Luis Felipe Valenzuela Calderara (May 9, 2020)

    I really enjoy your classes, makes a lot of sense and make improve mi dashboards. Now, to the next course of DAX! Thanks for sharing your wisdom! Greetings from Chile!

  • Carlos Barboza (May 3, 2020)

    This course is Tour de Force. For anybody who is new to Power BI, please watch this first! before jumping into making crappy dashboards.

  • Peter Polakovic (Apr 6, 2020)

    Thank you. Best

  • Amaru Quinones (Apr 5, 2020)

    Simply excellent. Second course so far and frankly, as high standard as Data modeling

  • THIBAULT NEUVILLE (Apr 3, 2020)

    Very clear, well applied to usual cases. I really appreciate the very structure way the 15 rules are organised and the materials which we can print and display for constant reminder of the rules. Excellent job !

  • Sara Li (Feb 21, 2020)

    Great course. Really taught me simple and easy understanding is the key to create dashboard. Thanks

  • Jaanis Veinberg (Feb 10, 2020)

    It was okay and perfect for an intro to the application.
