Introduction to Data Modeling for Power BI Video Course

Introduction to Data Modeling for Power BI is an introductory video course about data modeling, which is a required skill to get the best out of Power BI, Power Pivot for Excel, and Analysis Services. The training is aimed at users that do not have a background knowledge in data modeling for analytical systems and reporting.

The goal of the course is introduce the primary concepts of dimensional modeling, using practical examples and demos to illustrate how to obtain the desired result without having to write complex DAX expressions. Creating a proper data model simplifies the code to write and improves the performance. The course is made of 100 minutes of lectures. You can watch the videos at any time and the system will keep track of your advances. Within the course you can download the slides and the Power BI files used in the demos.

Great course. Theory and practice are excelent. Thanks

  • ODIN EFREN DEL TORO REYNA (Jan 3, 2021)

I'd been working with Power BI for some years and learn through practice. It's always a good practice to review basics which normally leads to improve productivity. From my point of view, courses from SQLBI are the best at the moment by having well-structured knowledge. If you want to be the best, learn from the best!

  • Leandro Rocha (Jan 3, 2021)

This course is very good, and helped me to understand how to designer the best model.

  • Abdualwarith mohammed Almaqramy (Jan 1, 2021)

Greetings, Mr. First, I am from the Republic of Yemen and Al Hudaydah Governorate. I follow your site from Al Hudaydah despite the difficult circumstances of siege, war and lack of services, but despite this, this has not prevented us from continuing to learn and follow your wonderful platform and from the wonderful and smooth delivery, I would like to thank those in charge of this wonderful and good educational platform

  • Austin Graham (Dec 31, 2020)

The course was great as a refresher. Having taken a course in university on most of this, it was nice to go over it again. I can't speak for those who would hear all of this for the first time. The examples work but maybe could have been easier to follow? I somehow missed what DAX really was until the last couple of lectures. I though I came to learn about PowerBi but instead learned about general analytics. I control the data on the backend so learning about how to manipulate it because it wasn't delivered properly wasn't all that useful but its good to know.

  • Jennifer Harrison (Dec 31, 2020)

    Excellent introduction to data modelling.

  • Aditya Deo (Dec 26, 2020)

Before watching this free series, didn't know that, data model can be a problem & also learnt how to resolve some simple problems.

  • PRADEEP MISHRA (Dec 24, 2020)

It was too good, Thank you so much.

  • Vincent Donovan (Dec 23, 2020)

Awesome. Very clear and detailed, and really leads the student carefully through the data modelling problem.

  • Svetlana Dolgopolova (Dec 22, 2020)

Great intro and very good examples.

  • Chabbil Singla (Dec 22, 2020)

    Excellent Content

  • jan blomberg (Dec 21, 2020)

Nice and concise presentation of the importance of setting up the data in the correct way! A wonderful presentation. May I only add that as all users of BI should also have access to Power Query, instead of doing a more complex presentation with advanced DAX coding, an inclusion of PowerQuery would possibly have gotten students a better understanding of the right tools for the job. That would of course have increased the scoop of this excellent free tutorial. I understand why it was excluded.
