• Power BI Desktop August 2020 Release
The August 2020 release of Power BI Desktop introduces (in preview) the support for Perspectives. These can be created only in Tabular Editor for Power BI Desktop, or they can be present in a Tabular model published on Analysis Services. There is also a new lasso select for data points in a chart and the dynamic formatting of measures with calculation groups applied is not supported on more visuals - the previous July 2020 release supported only Matrix, Table, and Card visuals.

It is now possible to disable the creation of classic workspaces on a tenant if the company were to decide to go all-in with the new workspace experience. This small setting can save you many hours of troubleshooting.

• The pros and cons of modelling measures as a dimension in Power BI
Creating a dimension of measures means applying the Entity Attribute Value (EAV) pattern in a Power BI model. Chris Webb explains and demonstrates why the EAV pattern is a very bad idea in Power BI and DAX.

• Power BI Dataflows: Multiple data lakes support
You can now map an existing Azure Data Lake Storage Gen2 (ADLS Gen2) to an individual workspace in Power BI, rather than having a single ADLS Gen2 account valid for all the Power BI Dataflows.

• Building cross-platform solutions that connect to Power BI datasets
Microsoft released the NuGet packages for .NET Core corresponding to existing ADOMD.NET and AMO for the .NET Framework. This new set of libraries makes it possible to programmatically interact with a Tabular model with technologies like Azure Functions, Linux, macOS, and any other cloud environment. A mandatory read for developers.
